COCKEYED OPTIMIST

while reading, I do that-read,
"cockeyed optimist" jumped off
the page and slapped me
right across the kisser.

I know what cockeyed means.
I know what optimist is.
how does a cockeyed optimist
differ from a cockeyed optimist?

in an optimist is cockeyed,
does not speak well for that optimist.
one may even think:
much less than a happy-go-lucky optimist.

pessimists have it all over optimists.
pessimist: always expecting worst; rarely happens.
optimist: always expecting best; rarely happens.

have betrayed innocence, again.
and such is a roving wolf
should enter and call for justice.

negotiating with stoic life form
not expecting great conversation
such subterfuge with such ilk

in retrospect, not brightest of ideas
we who control our natures
control our own destinies.

words: we suffer our words;
and to what end?
more one thinks one knows,

more one thinks of all
one will never know.
and one worries, somehow it shows

and soon everyone will know
all that one will never know.
but, hell, one never knows, does one?

last line was added for flavor.
a bit of bittersweet goes a long ways
keeping one's attitude in check.
of this, one is most certain.

scent of lavender held heavy
remembrance of days gone by
gone but never forgotten

have felt vigorous, but
as age insists, no longer
remember just when.

have lost touch with vigorous
and a great many other
grand things stole by time;

as I succumb to age, as do we all.
although, some make this trip
much better than others.

me? will go down screaming.

let us now consider astrophysics
and how t his pertains to certain
claustrophobic incidents, with
weight of hell suddenly becoming
especially hectic.

and all those misconceptions
lingering just off camera,
ready to excite humanity into death spiral.

later, some newfangled genius
come along, analyzing our wreckage
with free-for-all soon to ensue,
picking though our debris
for whatever treasures lie waiting.
